SARATOGA® is the only technology that has ever met the demanding requirements of the United States Department of Defense for its Joint Protective Aircrew Ensemble (“JPACE”). This new CBRN protective aircrew coverall was designed to provide all U.S. fixed and rotary wing aviators the same level of protection that the JSLIST Overgarment provides to U.S. ground forces. It is the only CBRN protective aircrew coverall qualified for use by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The U.S. Department of Defense conducted an exhaustive competitive test and evaluation program for JPACE, which included a wide range of protective technologies from around the world. Only a SARATOGA® material system successfully passed this extremely rigorous technical and operational evaluation. SARATOGA® JPACE went into full rate initial production in 2007.
It is a one-piece, air permeable, flame resistant, antistatic coverall, which is compatible with all U.S. air platforms, including those that do not have aircrew cooling systems. It is also compatible with microclimate cooling devices, as well as with all other U.S. aircrew equipment. JPACE includes innovative SARATOGA® inner sleeves and cuffs, as well as other specialized materials and design elements, resulting in an integrated ensemble which provides robust and reliable mission-oriented protection for 21st century pilots and aircrews.
SARATOGA® JPACE provides protection against all classes of chemical and biological warfare agents. The material system meets all requirements of the U.S. JPACE GRD, including protection against 10 g/m2 of GD and HD for 16 hours even after 30 days (480 hours) of repeated operational use, four launderings, and ejection in flight. The launderability of the SARATOGA® system both protects the health of the wearer and extends the useful life of the garment, reducing life cycle costs. Specially designed SARATOGA® JPACE field expedient repair kits further enhance the utility of this advanced aircrew coverall. SARATOGA® JPACE was successfully battle-tested in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
